my baby turned one...

Daxton_one

I can barely believe the year has gone by so quickly. Daxton turned one last Saturday while we were in England. Since we were gone we celebrated today, we had chocolate cupcakes, ice cream, and lots of really fun presents. I think Daxton (and Boston's) favorite gift was the Fisher Price Bounce & Spin Zebra. There has been lots of laughs and smiles so far - oh wait and fighting for turns between the boys. Happy Birthday baby!

I'm Back!

529082_copy
We had soooo much fun traveling in England. I took over 800 pictures so when I get a chance to go through them I will share a few with some highlights of the trip. Above are the boys sporting their new football (soccer) uniforms Eric and I brought back for them. Dax is starting to walk so when I wanted them to stand up and take a picture he would just start walking dragging Boston with him. It was pretty funny.

I LOVE this picture I took of Minnie (my MIL) pushing Boston on the swing. It worked out perfect with Boston in focus and her and Dax in the background a bit blurry.

And I'll leave on a funny note: This morning we went through the drive thru at the bank and I had the boys in the back of the car. Boston has been a regular at the bank between going with us and his grandma so he knows all the bank tellers quite well and is always spoiled with candy. Anyway, Bonnie (one of the bank tellers) was talking to Boston through the window and asked if he wanted a treat. He responded by saying "I want a sucker the color of the sun." I just started laughing because it amazes me the things he comes up with especially at moments like this. So, doing as Boston requested Bonnie gave him a yellow sucker and he was happy as could be.

a company update...

Adornit Free Idea Books Are Now Paperless!

We have a green announcement! Adornit Free Idea Books will now be “paperless.” Many factors helped us make this exciting decision.
⇒ Everyone has computers and is tech savvy now, so we feel it is a perfect time to switch to this quick method of communication, rather than using snail mail for our idea books.
⇒ We all want to do our part to reduce the use of our environmental resources. Putting more ideas and instructions online is one way to begin.
⇒ Whatever your personal interest, whether it be wood décor, paper crafting, or cardmaking, you will be able to find ideas to fit that personal interest.
⇒ Going green in our Idea Books will allow you to print out the individual projects that you like.
⇒ We will periodically still send out flyers by mail – it just won’t be as often. Remember if you still want the paper idea book visit your local scrapbook store to pick up your copy.

May Beginner Basics

by debbie raymond

Have I got an idea for you! Adornit Sticker Paper is a hot new product that Adornit introduced at CHA. It’s a 6” x 12” sheet of adhesive cardstock that comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns. It’s easy to use—saves time and effort.

If you’re a beginner, you’ll love the price! Sometimes beginning scrappers are overwhelmed with all the “spending opportunities” in scrapping. But Sticker Paper is just $1.00 to $1.10 per 6” x 12” sheet! At that price, you could buy it in all 16 designs. It’s a perfect stash item.

In my layout I used Sticker Paper for the blue journaling strips and the green and blue thin outline strips. There are two reasons sticker paper made my layout super easy:

1. Sticker Paper is made of heavy cardstock, so it’s easy to handle. It was simple to cut the long strips – I used my paper cutter and it sliced them beautifully, even though they were only 1/8” to ¼” wide. The stiffness also made inking the edges on my journaling strips easy. (Inking edges adds a finishing touch that makes you look like you’re not a beginner! Just use a stamp pad that matches and rub the edges of your journaling strips across the pad to add color.)

2. The adhesive back means you don’t have to painstakingly put glue or adhesive tabs on each little strip. Just peel off the backing and stick it down. No glue on your fingers or temperamental glue runners to deal with. I’ve always loved little journaling strips, but they’re such a pain to cut out and stick down that lately I’ve avoided them. With Adornit Sticker Paper, I can add them to every layout (not that I would lol).

My layout brings back a memory of fun summer day with my girls, my granddaughter and her cousins. The fresh colors remind me of the ice cream we were eating. I have to tell you that I scraplifted this layout from a layout by Jenni Bowlin on her blog. I think credit should be given where credit is due!

Try some Adornit Sticker Paper today. It’ll make your next layout fun and easy.

21862 Candy Green 12x12
93098 Laughter Together Cardstock Sticker
93115 Morning Blue Sticker Paper
93118 Cashmere Green Sticker Paper
white cardstock
1. Start with a base of Candy Green. Adhere an 11 ½” x 11 ½” sheet of scallop-edged white cardstock, leaving an edge of green showing all around.
2. Adhere an 8” x 8” piece of Dotted Flower Stripes to center of layout. Trim it so the green stripe with brown dots is across the top. Cut four ¼” x 9” strips from Morning Blue Sticker Paper. Adhere around edges of Dotted Flower Stripes piece, leaving a ¼” strip of white mat showing in between.
3. Mount a 4x6 photo on a piece of 5x7white cardstock. Ink edges. Adhere to center of layout. Cut two 1/8” strips from Cashmere Green Sticker Paper. Adhere to white cardstock mat around photo, leaving a 1/8” strip of white mat showing right next to photo.
4. Make journaling strips cut from Morning Blue Sticker Paper. Write little details on the strips about the photo including “who, what, when and where.” Cut and ink edges. Adhere to right side of layout. Notice how easy Adornit Sticker Paper is to work with!
5. Adorn your page with accents from Laughter Together Cardstock Stickers. Ink edges of stickers before sticking down.

great journaling...

i love the journaling on this layout our talented Robin Karen created. She taught this Adornit class down in SLC on national scrabook day at Paper Creations. The journaling is so very simple - I love the typed journaling strips. But I love how even though it's simple and short it tells a beautiful story. Journaling reads:
This is the day I was so excited for. This is the day my little brother was getting married. But this was the day I would miss it all. Because this is the day I had a baby. And now it's a day I will never forget.

mother's day gifts...

are finally finished! I have spent the past two days sewing these super cute aprons for my mom and mil. It's been lots of fun but I'm happy they are finally done. Here's some pics:
Apron_full
The polka dot sweetheart neckline is adorned with cute brown ric rac.
Apron_bodice
It has a really thick - 3 inch waist tie
Apron_waisttie
The skirt is pieced together with three different patterns of fabric. the bottom of the skirt has a really cute eyelet trim.
Apron_trim
And, my favorite part is the pocket. We found this vintage table runner at a local antique shop. I cut the sides off of the table runner which made two circles (because I made two aprons) and pieced it onto the front of the apron making a really cute pocket. Oh, I did add the yellow ric rac on before putting it onto the apron.

That's about it - it took me a lot longer than it did to tell you about it.
