Sitting around the Thanksgiving table each year, one of our
traditions, like many of yours I'm sure, is to take turns talking
about our blessings. I love to hear about the things that are significant
to my loved ones, especially my kids. This year I decided to make a "give
thanks tree." I had my kids go in the backyard with me and gather some
sticks and twigs. They had so much fun with this that we could have just
ended there. I used a vase that I already had that usually holds
flowers, and stuck the sticks down in the vase. Then I filled the
vase with little rocks. (I also think it would be cute to spray paint
the sticks, depending on the look you want) I made a bunch of tags and
asked my kids what they were thankful for. I got answers like, "my
mommy", and "my toys." It was sweet, but I really want them
to think about ALL that they have to be grateful for. I made a bunch of extra
tags so that throughout the month we can add to the tree. I hope at the end of
each day we can reflect on our blessings, and hopefully we can make this fun
tradition last throughout the whole season.
