2009 Summer Blog Party: Day Two

Today is CHALLENGE DAY! What’s a scrapbook party without a game – and for scrappers, a layout challenge is the best game of all! This challenge will be UNIQUE and easy for you, because we have an exclusive PageMap from the fabulous sketch designer, Becky Fleck! We were so excited when Becky designed us the PageMap for our Blog Party. (Thanks Becky.) Making a layout from a PageMap is fun and easy; if you haven’t tried it, today is the perfect opportunity.

Becky Fleck has authored a book of PageMaps and scrapping inspiration called Scrapbook PageMaps – Sketches for Creative Layouts. You can also visit Becky’s website and blog at http://www.pagemaps.com. The following description is from the website: “The hard-cover book has 60 never-before-seen sketches in five popular sizes, along with 140 samples of artwork. You will also receive a deck of laminated cards that includes a thumbnail of all of the sketches in the book along with corresponding finished layouts. Helpful resource information such as a supply list and photo sizes are included on each card, along with page information cross-referencing the sketch back to the book.”

Back to the challenge! Here’s what you do:
Deadline: Tuesday, August 4, 2009
1. Print Becky’s PageMap (above) and gather your photos and supplies.
2. Create a scrapbook page using the PageMap as a guide – it doesn’t have to be exactly like the map.
3. Upload a photo of your layout on your blog or other sharing place.
4. Post a comment below including a link to your pagemap.
5. We’ll randomly choose one of the layouts for a fun Adornit prize package.

For Day 2 of our blog party, we gals here at Adornit made our own layouts from Becky’s PageMap. As you can see, we ended up with a variety of themes and styles from one sketch.  Isn’t it fun to see how they’re “the same and yet different”?  We can’t wait to see what you come up with.

I already know that Tammy will not be impressed with my post but I thought these pictures turned out too great not to share. Tammy, one of our TALENTED graphic designers needed a picture today and so we headed out back behind our warehouse to our neighboring green house (much better backdrop than a bunch of cardboard boxes) for some quick snapshots. Enjoy!

Miss Rodeo Utah Contest...

My beautiful little sister, Jackie spent the last week trying out for the Miss Rodeo Utah contest. It was a grueling week for her with lots of interviews, horsemanship, speeches, fashion shows, luncheons and more. And she had to go the entire week without any contact with the family - I think that was the hardest thing for her and for us. We are a very close family and since we work together we see each other everyday.

On Friday night we all drove to Ogden for the big Rodeo and to see the coronation of the new Miss Rodeo Utah.
 

Jackie ended up placing 3rd Runner Up, we are so proud of her!

Beginner Basics for Scrapbooking: July

It’s time for July's Beginner’s Basics from Adornit editor Debbie Raymond. Debbie writes: So many pictures, so little time. It’s summer, and that means I have a dilemma. I’m taking lots of photos that would be SO CUTE as scrapbook pages, and yet I don’t want to spend time indoors when I could be outside hiking or riding my awesome old-lady bike.

Sooooo the answer is…make my scrapping simple.

That means giving myself some limits. (That’s hard when you work at Adornit!) I decided that FOR SOME OF MY PHOTOS, I’d limit myself to using only black and white papers and embellishments. That way I can easily use my most colorful photos because summer is COLORful. By using only black and white supplies, I can simplify my choices and help me get my scrapbook pages done.

This is so easy that you can put all your (limited) supplies in a cute basket and take them outside and watch your kids play or enjoy the beauty of your back yard while you scrap. If you’re young like Georgana, you’ll have kids jumping on the tramp and running through the sprinklers in the background as you work. If you’re an empty nester like me, you’ll enjoy the sounds of the birds in the trees or the songs on your ipod. Whatever your stage of life, scrapbooking outside in the summer is a delicious treat.

The three designs you see come in four different colors giving the collection 12 different stickers. These are clear so they have the look of a transparency or rub-on, but without the fuss.

July Busy Women Kit...

This morning before going into work I made these really cute photo cubes (that I plan to give to my sister Ali). I used all the supplies that are available in our July Busy Women Kit. I LOVE the flowers that I cut out of the patterned paper.

I am also thrilled about this kit because we have a guest designer, Julie Hickey. Look at this great layout she created:
