Last Day with Jill...

My last layout is called “I Wish” and features the Misty collection. The redish orange and blues of this line the perfect complement to these photos of Kaitlin.


I like to give Kaitlin quizzes like this at least once a year or so. Sometimes I reuse questions to see how her answers change over time and sometimes I ask entirely new ones to help highlight something specific about her life or personality at the time.


Rather than printing journaling on plain cardstock, I sometimes like to print on paper with a subtle pattern. The journaling is still readable, but it gives the overall design a little more life.
Well, this is my final day as guest blogger and I have so enjoyed my time with you. I certainly enjoyed crafting with AdornIt’s amazing collections and I hope you have enjoyed the layouts that I have shared with you!

Day Four with Jill...

Here’s more pictures from our trip to Iowa last summer.
We took a train ride on the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad and I had LOTS of pictures. Believe it or not, I did have to narrow down my selection to use these 16 photos!


The AdornIt Destinations collection was PERFECT! The right side sheet of patterned paper had an airplane at the top right which didn’t quite match the theme, so I covered it up with my photo strip and sticker grouping.


The word travel was broken up into ‘tra’ and ‘vel’ on the bottom left and all it needed was a little customization to act as the title for my page!


I added another embellishment grouping and my layout was finished!

Day Three with Jill...

While I really do love all the current AdornIt lines, I must say that Pink Hoot has to be my fav! As soon as I saw it, I knew that it would be perfect for these photos!


It’s fairly rare that I create a single photo layout as I always have a hard time picking just one. I had this problem with the photos I wanted to use for “Miss Personality,” so I used a 4x6 shot as my focal photo and then supplimented it with smaller photos.
My favorite technique is to create collages of 2-4 pictures on one 4x6 print. The four photos along the bottom were actually printed as 2 4x6 collages with 2 photos each. It’s a very econimical way to order prints as 4x6’s are generally inexpensive.


I got this great idea for journaling from an eBook by Ella Publishing Company. It was a great way to take a snapshot of Kaitlin’s personality RIGHT NOW. I pulled the text colors straight from the fun, bright colors in the patterned paper.
I punched a few hearts from other patterns within the collection and gave them a little pop with adhesive dots.


In case you can’t tell, I was inspired by the name of the collection itself for my “What a hoot!” layout.
In it, I basically made a list of all the things that Kaitlin does to make me laugh and smile like her impersonations, accents and funny dances.


I love to break up my journaling by cutting it into strips. It’s easier to form it around other elements on the page and keep your layout from looking too ‘blocky’. It also allows more of the beautiful patterned paper to peak through.


Then I used a few more of the Pink Hoot stickers to create a fun embellishment grouping along the bottom.

Day Two with Jill...

First up is a layout that I created with some lovely papers from the Misty and Bee Happy collections.


These photos were taken during our visit to the Reiman Gardens in Aimes, IA while visiting Justin’s sister and brother-in-law last summer.
The blues and greens in these patterned papers were perfect for the garden theme.The green pattern reminded me of the beautiful foliage and the dotted swirls on the blue background reminded me of the spray of water from the fountains that Kaitlin had so much fun playing in.


I used the heart and bracket stickers from the Misty collection to create a fun embellishment grouping with a monogram which creates a visual triangle with the title treatment and journaling block.

Guest Blogger: Jill Paulson...

Hi! My name is Jill Marie Paulson and I am SO excited to be guest blogging this week. Georgana was kind enough to send me an amazing package of Adornit products and I had an amazing time creating layouts. I’ll be sharing several projects with you this week and hopefully you’ll find something that inspires you!
I’ve been married to my husband, Justin, for 11 years and we have one daughter, Kaitlin, who is 8 years old. I am the Assistant Director of Admissions for a private college in the Midwest and it keeps my quite busy, but I always make sure to find time for scrapbooking…even if my scrap sessions do sometimes get a little more spread out than I’d like.

Of course, Kaitlin is the primary subject of all my scrapping and was actually the reason that I started scrapbooking about 9 years ago. When I couldn’t find a baby book that I liked, I decided that I would create my own and I never looked back.

I would consider myself to be a fairly clean and simple scrapper. I tend to lean towards straight lines and even margins and simple embellishments that really allow my photos and journaling to shine. As I mentioned earlier, my work keeps me pretty busy, so this style is partially due to preference and partially due to necessity. This style helps me to scrap faster and keep more memories.

I have had layouts published in Creating Keepsakes, Memory Makers, Scrapbook & Cards Today, Scrapbook Trends, Scrapbooks etc., Simple Scrapbooks, Simply Handmade and, most recently, Scrapbook News & Review (an online publication).

Last Day with Aphra...

Hi everyone.  It's been such a fun week for me hanging out here at Adornit.  I have just one more layout to show you before I'm off to celebrate the New Year.

 

As soon as I saw the colors in the Misty collection, I thought of Christmas.  I pulled out this sweet photo of my kiddos in their red and grey sweaters.  It was just meant to be!

 

 

As you can see, I love to use lots of layers of patterned paper while still leaving myself some white space.  Using strips of paper allows me to meet both needs. 

 

My journaling was a bit too long for just one Misty Bird cardstock stickers, so I used two.  To complete my little cluster, I added a third sticker and embellished with two birds cut from the Wonderful Misty paper. 

 

 

I love that the Love Blooms stickers come with so many word stickers.  I was able to use two of them for the title of my layout.  I used foam adhesive to pop them up and then added a heart sticker and parenthesis sticker to draw a little more attention to this area of the layout.

Guest Blogger... Aphra Bolyer

Hello scrappers! My name is Aphra, and I live down South in Louisiana with my Alaskan oil man Jeff and our two boys, Jonathan (10) and Ethan (3). While my husband is tromping around in the Alaskan tundra for weeks at a time, I'm home working part-time at a doctor's office, chasing around two rowdy boys and our miniature dachshund Max, and staying up into the wee hours of the night scrapbooking.

I fell in love with this hobby back in 2000 when my oldest son was born, and I get more and more addicted with each new product release. It's my passion, my creative outlet, my sanity! Mostly, I create layouts of my family, but I also enjoy making cards, gifts, and decor. Honestly, I will use any excuse to get to scrapbook!

 

I was so excited to receive the Fern collection.  It is a dream for a momma scrapping two boys.  The colorful papers and playful patterns are just perfect for any of my scrappy occasions.

 

 

For my Dream card, I used a kraft cardstock base and two of the fun Fern patterns.  Then, I just used several of the Life's A Hoot stickers to adorn the card:  the blue border, the brown scallop, scalloped owl circle, and scalloped dream circle.  The finishing touch was a strip of Dotty Ribbon.

 

 

This layout was inspired by the Owl Hoot B paper.  The cute owls perched on the circle trees were just begging to be fussy cut, so I obliged.

 

 

I added a few brads and a couple more Life's A Hoot stickers, my title, and some journaling and the layout was done.

Hopping with Adornit - Day 3

Today we thought it would be fun to get you all hopping into action with a little Potato Sack Race.  There is nothing as entertaining as watching a group of kids try to hop their way to the finish line, laughing and falling all the way.  We also thought it was a perfect way to show off our two adorable owl collections - Pink Hoot and Fern.  They are the perfect palette of brightness and fun to scrapbook the amazing children in your life.

Hopping with Adornit - Day 1

Hi it's Debbie Raymond, Adornit editor, on the blog today telling about a fun weekend I had with my daughters Suzie and Becky (and Beck's baby Emmett too!)

Suzie came from Las Vegas for a few days to visit. Becky came from SLC to be part of the fun...starting with lunch at Costa Vida! (The next day these two lucked out and got free Chick-Fil-A sandwiches from Logan's newest fast food store that is just about to open.)

Becky and Emmett shared the Sweet Pork Salad. The tortilla strips on top were perfect for munching on then dropping on the floor.

Then we were lucky enough catch all the McMullin girls (the original Adornit girls!) at the local Holiday Boutique gift show. The Adornit booth was huge and filled with stuff - which was flying out of there as the days went on!

I had been very excited to see the Adornit booth because Alison - with her fun, creative fashion style - has ordered wonderful bags, wallets, jewelry and hip, unusual, boutique-y style clothes. I love watching her go through the boxes and happily showing me the unique things that came in. (You can see their cute sister-in-law Stacy peeking around the corner.)

Here's Jackie at the register keeping all the customers happy. Jackie's the perfect model for Adornit clothes. She's wearing her darling flower headband, dress, scarf, necklace, belt with flower, and purse.

The booth looked awesome - jam-packed with "stuff" including darling handmade items (a rare thing to see nowadays) such as these Christmas wood plaques for holiday decorating. Made by Alison, the wood decor pieces are adorable in real life with glitter and dimension. They'll be sold at the store - Carolee's Creations on north Main just south of the Hyde Park stoplight where the shopping fun continues.
